Australia take hockey fifth
| | Defending Olympic champions Australia beat New Zealand 3-0 to finish in fifth place in the women's hockey. The Australians came to Athens looking for their third gold medal in a row but a poor performance in the pool stages mean they will go home without a medal. South Korea beat Japan 3-1 in the seventh-place play-off. South Africa needed an extra-time penalty corner goal to edge out Spain 4-3 to finish ninth and condemn the Spaniards to 10th and last place.
