The Netherlands match ended 2-2 after a controversial last-minute equaliser from Argentina's Maria Aicega.
Argentina took an early lead before goals from Sylvia Karres and Mijntje Donners put Holland 2-1 ahead.
Goalkeeper Clarinda Sinnige was the hero for the Netherlands as she saved two penalties to ensure they reached their first women's final for 20 years.
In the shoot-out, Janneko Schopman, Ageeth Boomgaardt, Mijntje Donners and Lieve van Kessel all scored for the Netherlands.
And Sinnige's saves from Maria Rognoni and Ayelen Stepnik clinched the match for the Netherlands.
