Britain's Ian Wynne moved into the final of the K1 500m kayak event after winning his heat impressively. After getting off to a mediocre start, Wynne powered to the front by the half-way mark and never looked like relinquishing his lead.
His time of one minute 38.911 seconds put him as fourth-fastest qualifier for Saturday's final.
In the women's event, Britain's Lucy Hardy qualified after being promoted to third following a disqualification.
Poland's Aneta Pastuszka was disqualified after finishing third when her kayak was underweight after the race.
Germany's Lutz Altepost and Israel's Babak Amir Tahmasseb also qualified from Wynne's heat.
Other finalists include Norway's Eirik Veraas Larsen, Adam van Koeverden of Canada and Australia's Nathan Baggaley.
