Video - Ayvazian causes upset in 50m prone

Artur Ayvazian of the Ukraine upset the form book with a surprise win over defending champion Matthew Emmons in the Olympic 50m rifle prone final.

Avyazian, who led the standings after qualifying, finished with a total of 702.7, one point ahead of the American.

"It is my greatest success," said the 35-year-old. "I think the experience of taking part in three Olympics helped."

Australia's world record holder Warren Potent was third, with Britain's Jon Hammond failing to reach the final.

He finished 34th with a score of 589 out of his 600 shots.

"I felt like I shot pretty well," said Hammond. "I didn't shoot too many bad shots, but I struggled with the wind. It was really tough, and the scores reflect that.

"A few of the guys got it right and shot well, but I found it really tough and did the best I could on the day.

"I was happy with my start. I shot a 99 and felt like I was going to find a way to get into it, but the wind really got up and the conditions just bit me in the behind on the second and third (series). After that it was all catch up."
