A composed David Kostelecky wins gold |
David Kostelecky of the Czech Republic claimed his nation's second gold of the Games in the men's trap shooting event. Despite the rain, Kostelecky maintained his nerve to hit all 25 targets of the final round, finishing on 146 points. Italy's Giovanni Pellielo took silver and defending champion Alexey Alipov of Russia claimed bronze after a shoot-off with Australia's Michael Diamond. Karsten Bindrich of Germany, the world record holder, finished seventh after failing to advance to the final. Kostelecky and Alipov were tied for first place after qualifying, but the Czech shooter turned in the only perfect final round. Nobody else hit more than 23 targets in the final.
