Torquay sailor Alex Bennett is to sail in this year's Artemis Transat yacht race between Plymouth and Boston.

Bennett, who had to abandon his Jacque Vabre trans-Atlantic attempt with Cornwall's Ifor Pedley in November, will be hoping for better luck in May.

The Fujifilm yacht has been entered into the new Class 40 category which promotes top level racing without the major budgets needed.

The race starts in Plymouth on 11 May and is expected to take 20 days.

The Artemis Transat race is held every four years and brings together some of the best sailors in the world.

Previous winners of the 2800 mile race across the North Atlantic include Dame Ellen MacArthur in the monohull class in the year 2000.
