Campbell was fourth in the recent World Cup regatta in Lucerne

Alan Campbell will not be taking part in the final World Cup regatta of the season in Poland next week.

The 25-year-old Coleraine man underwent minor surgery over the weekend to clear up an infection in his knee.

Campbell will not compete in the Poznan as a precaution but he is expected to recommence training in the coming days.

The Coleraine man and his fellow GB team member Richard Chambers appear Northern Ireland's best contenders for medals at the Beijing Olympics.

Campbell won his single scull event at the opening World Cup meeting of the season in Munich but he finished fourth in the recent regatta in Lucerne.
