Panter's battle to get to Beijing

Anne Panter

Leicester hockey player Anne Panter is looking forward to the Olympics after getting to Beijing against the odds.

The 23-year-old missed four years of hockey after a car accident in 2003 and two years later sustained a knee ligament injury.

She told BBC Radio Leicester: "I didn't think I was actually going to get back to playing hockey at all let alone come and play in an Olympics.

"It was knowing it was what I'd always wanted to do that kept me going."

Panter, who plays in midfield and defence, added: "World Cups and European Cups are fantastic but the Olympic Games is something special."

The GB women's team are in Pool B along with the USA, Japan New Zealand, Argentina and reigning Olympic champions Germany.
