County Londonderry cyclist Wendy Houvenaghel is guaranteed at least a silver medal in the women's 3000m individual pursuit at the Olympics. The 33-year-old was second fastest in Saturday's round behind British team-mate Rebecca Romero in Beijing. The two will now contest Sunday's final in the Laoshan Velodrome. Houvenaghel, beat Lada Kozlikova of the Czech Republic in three minutes 27.829 seconds, while Romero clocked 3:27.703 to see off Australia's Katie Mactier. In qualifying Houvenaghel, born in Northern Ireland but who represented England at the Commonwealth Games in 2006, was fastest in three minutes, 27.703 seconds. "I am absolutely ecstatic. It is a great position to be in going into a final," said Houvenaghel. "Gold is what I am aiming for. It is going to be areal battle between us. "It is just a case of getting yourself into the zone and working towards you goal."
