Team GB boxing coach Terry Edwards is confident of returning from the Beijing Olympics with medals after unveiling his eight-strong team of boxers.

Super-heavyweight David Price captains a team which also includes lightweight world champion Frankie Gavin.

Edwards, who coached Audley Harrison to gold in 2000 and Amir Khan to silver in 2004, said: "This is the most talented team of boxers in recent years.

"If they box to their potential, they will convert performances to medals."

Light-welterweight Bradley Saunders, light-heavyweight Tony Jeffries and bantamweight Joe Murray, also qualified at the World Amateur Championships.

Welterweight Billy Joe Saunders, flyweight Khalid Yafai and middleweight James DeGale earned their places at February's qualifying tournament in Italy, while Price made it through final qualifying in Athens.

Price said: "It is an honour to have been chosen as Captain by my team-mates, who I have the utmost respect for, and this shows that they have respect for me as well."

Bradley Saunders added: "Qualifying for the Games was up there with the birth of my son Leyton. Hopefully I will do him and my family proud and bring back a medal."

Khalid Yafai is planning to stay as an amateur after the Games with the next Olympics already on his mind. He said: "It's my dream come true going to the greatest show on earth.

"Hopefully Beijing will just be the start of winning Olympic medals and I can take the experiences to London in 2012."

Simon Clegg, Team GB 2008 Chef de Mission, said: "This squad of eight boxers is one of the largest we have had in recent Games and the talent within it is extremely exciting.

"The depth of talent is a testament to the work of Edwards and his coaching team and I wish them well in their preparations for Beijing."
