Marathon runner Dan Robinson has expressed his relief at being named in the GB Olympic squad for Beijing. The 33-year-old already had the qualifying time and ran a new personal best in the 2008 London Marathon. "I was pretty sure I was going to get selected but got an official letter from the British Olympic Association," he told BBC Radio Gloucestershire. "When you see your name as definitely being part of the team and you're going to the Olympics, it's a great feeling." Robinson is the only British male chosen for the marathon in Beijing after Ethiopian-born Tomas Abyu was not selected. | The selectors made their decision, but personally I would have liked to have seen Tomas selected |
Abyu thought he had achieved the required time in Dublin last Autumn. But the course had not been measured and approved by International Amateur Athletics Federation qualified officials. As well as causing disappointment for Abyu, Robinson has also admitted that the situation does not help him. "The plan is to go out for the holding camp before the games for about three weeks, so just in terms of doing the training it would be nice to have someone there," he said. "I think that Great Britain should be sending as full a team as possible to the games. "The selectors made their decision, but personally I would have liked to have seen Tomas selected."
