Robinson has been unable to shake off a cold in recent weeks |
Britain's top male marathon runner Dan Robinson has been told to rest before stepping up his pre-Olympic training. Robinson finished 11th at the summer's World Championships in Osaka but has struggled for form since then.
"While I have been training well my races have been below par, so I'll take it easy to freshen up physically and mentally," said the 32-year-old.
"My races since Osaka have not gone well and in retrospect the race took more out of me than I thought."
Robinson has been struggling with a cold which forced him to pull out of the Seville half marathon and coach Chris Frapwell has prescribed a period of rest and "light training" until the new year.
"I was very disappointed with having to drop out of Seville at the weekend, but having run personal bests at 5K, five miles, 10 miles and the half, plus finishing 11th in the World Championships, it has not been a disaster," added Robinson.
"I would certainly have settled for that at the start of the year.
"It's nice to finish the year as Britain's number one and I'll be even more delighted if Olympic year ends the same way."
