Terry tried rugby and motorcycling in his decade away from archery |
Sleaford's Simon Terry begins a two-day shoot-off at Lilleshall on Wednesday as he bids to make the Great Britain men's archery squad for the Olympic Games. He is among four archers vying for two automatic places, with a third spot to be awarded on a discretionary basis. Terry won two bronze medals at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona but then spent a decade away from the sport. After a brief motorcycle racing career he returned to archery after seeing a colleague win bronze in Athens in 2004. | BBC OLYMPICS BLOG |
British Archery's Peter Jones believes Terry could be on the brink of an amazing comeback after finishing fourth in last year's World Championships. Jones told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "He drifted away from archery, took up rugby and bought a motorbike, and did all the things you do in your 20s. "But a year after his return he was shooting the kind of scores which catch the attention of the head coach Peter Suk, and it's all gone from there."
