Moynihan stays on as BOA chairman

Colin Moynihan's re-election as the chairman of the British Olympic Association will be confirmed next month after no-one opposed him.

Despite reports that the government were lining-up someone to stand against the 53-year-old Tory peer, no-one came forward to challenge.

Moynihan, a rowing silver medallist as a cox at the 1980 Olympics, will now lead the BOA until after London 2012.

He was first elected chairman by the organisation in October 2005.

The former sports minister has expressed strong views on government funding on several occasions during the past three years, and has continued to demand more money for Britain's elite athletes.

However the success of the team in Beijing appears to have justified his stance.

Some of Moynihan's other ideas, such as the FTSE-BOA Partnership, have been widely praised.

The initiative partners a FTSE company with an individual national governing body to allow the governing body access to different skills and expertise.
