Hoy was one of Britain's outstanding performers in Beijing |
Triple gold medallist Chris Hoy will carry the Olympic flag for Great Britain at the closing ceremony in Beijing on Sunday. The 32-year-old track cyclist was the first Briton for 100 years to win three gold medals at the same Olympics. "It's a huge honour to be carrying the flag," said Hoy, who was already involved in the ceremony as part of the handover to London 2012. "When you consider the standard of the team it's a special honour for me." London will unveil their blueprint for 2012 with an eight-minute slot during the closing ceremony. And the start of the 2.5m set will feature Hoy and fellow cycling gold medallist Victoria Pendleton, dressed as everyday Londoners, following a red London double-decker bus around the Bird's Nest stadium. The Edinburgh athlete, who won the individual sprint, the team sprint and the keirin, became only the second Briton to win three golds at the same Games after swimmer Henry Taylor did likewise in London in 1908.
