Great Britain men's curling skip David Murdoch says his aim is to bring back a medal from the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Murdoch finished fourth in 2006 but is the current world champion and wants to get on the podium in February.

He told BBC Radio 5 live: "We will go there with high expectations. We just missed out in Turin and this time aim to go that step further."

Murdoch was named alongside Ewan MacDonald, Peter Smith, Euan Byers and Graeme Connal in the Olympic squad.

In the women's curling, 19-year-old Eve Muirhead is skip alongside Jackie Lockhart, Kelly Wood, Lorna Vevers and Karen Addison.

Muirhead is the youngest British skip but said: "These last few years, I've trained hard to gain my position (as skip).

"I've been out to several world junior championships and managed to come home with three world gold medals."

She added: "If we perform very strongly at the round-robin stages then we can get into the medals from the semi-finals.

"Being skipper at 19 does put pressure on me but I have accepted that role and I'm just going to go out there and compete the best I can."

But it is Murdoch's team who are the strong medal favourites, having won the world title competing as Scotland in April.

However at the recent European Championships in Aberdeen, his team lost in the play-offs, blaming the ice.

He denies his team are under pressure to win Britain's first curling medal since Rhona Martin's gold triumph in Salt Lake City in 2002.

"It's something we've been training for, for four years now. We're in good form from winning the Worlds in the last 12 months."

The team's Chef de Mission Andy Hunt expects both teams to rise to the challenge. "We have two teams which have the most depth and breadth of experience and talent.

"The men's team are world champions and the women's team are led by Eve, who is one of the most talented young curlers in the world," he said.
