Keatings struck gold four times at the European Juniors in Lausanne
Huntingdon Gym's Daniel Keatings says he never expected to win silver in the all-round category of the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
The British Olympian finished second in the men's all-round event in Milan.
The 19-year-old from Corby told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "There was a lot of big names in there, people I've looked up to all my life.
"Competing amongst them was an amazing feeling and I didn't expect that result at all."
The Scotland teenager also took bronze on the pommel horse with his club-mate and Olympic bronze medalist Louis Smith picking up the silver.
The pair were flung into the spotlight after their success in Beijing last summer and have helped each other concentrate on improving their performances across the different apparatus.
"There's a bit of friendly rivalry but it's all good when we get into competitions, we just spur each other on," Keatings said.
"If he sees something I do good he'll try and do something to beat me and vice-versa so it's a big help training with each other."
Keatings admits it is tough to put the 2012 London Olympic Games to the back of his mind.
"I get chills in my spine just thinking about it now but I have to concentrate on the short-term goals, but always at night you end up thinking about it," he said.
