Wallwork and Robertson got off to a victorious start |
New British badminton duo Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork got off to a winning start in their first-round match at the Denmark Open. Playing together for the first time the pair beat China's Xu Chen and Pan Pan 21-18 21-14 at the Super Series event. Robertson and previous partner Gail Emms split after the Beijing Olympics having won silver at the Athens Games. Robertson and Wallwork now face a second-round meeting with Scotland's Robert Blair and Imogen Bankier. Fourth seeds and reigning European champions, Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg also went through after a 21-11 21-15 win over Dutch pair Jorrit De Ruiter and Ilse Vaessen in their first action since Beijing. As well as Olympic silver, Robertson and Emms also claimed world, European and Commonwealth titles during their time together. But following their quarter-final exit in Beijing, 31-year-old Emms retired from the sport with Robertson teaming up with Wallwork earlier in October.
