Ireland captain Sean Cavanagh praised his team and Australia after a 57-53 win in the second Test in Melbourne secured a five-point series success.

"It's unbelievable, especially after the disppointment of getting heavily beaten here in 2005.

"All credit to the Aussies - they never gave up but it's great to be bringing the trophy back home.

"It was fantastic for the fans and for the sport and there was no violence which was a negative in 2006."

He added: "It was always going to be tough coming to Australia's home of football and knowing how patriotic the Aussies are.

"We are already looking forward to bringing them back to Ireland next year."

Down forward Benny Coulter scored two goals in the MCG victory as he reflected the happy mood in the Ireland camp.

"This is definitely the best (series in Australia) - the way we prepared and the last two weeks have been brilliant.

"Tonight tops it all and the scenes here after the game are amazing.

"The Rules series is back on board. The games have been clean and brilliant and it's been a fantastic series."
