Tyrone captain Brian Dooher and his team-mate Sean Cavanagh are two of the three nominees for this year's official Vodafone GAA Footballer of the Year.

The two All-Ireland medallists will be in contention for the footballer award with Kerry forward Colm Cooper.

Kilkenny duo Eddie Brennan and Eoin Larkin are nominated for the hurling award with Waterford's Eoin Kelly.

The winners of the awards will be announced at the All Stars banquet in Dublin on 17 October.

The shortlist for both senior awards does not include any previous winners.

Cork's Cathal Naughton of Cork, Joe Canning of Galway and Seamus Callinan of Tipperary are nominated for the young hurler award.

In the young footballer category, Limerick's Ian Ryan and Laois' Johnny O'Loughlin will be up against All Star nominee Tommy Walsh of Kerry.
