Kieran McGeeney will bring experience to the Rules panel |
Ireland's International Rules manager Sean Boylan has said that there could be major changes to the training panel released earlier this week. Boylan has said that the door remains open to players such as Fermanagh pair Barry Owens and Martin McGrath who were not on the list released on Wednesday.
"It's not even a preliminary panel. You couldn't call it that," said Boylan.
"We're still getting around to contacting players. I'm sorry if this has caused confusion."
The farcical nature of the panel has been emphasised by the fact that Conor Gormley's name appears in the list even though he is out of action at the moment because of a broken ankle.
His Tyrone colleagues Ryan McMenamin and Philip Jordan were also included in the list even though they are not available for the series because they will be in Australia.
However, one name that does correctly appear is Armagh star Kieran McGeeney who seems likely to play a part in the series after being controversially left out of the squad for the 2005 series.
Armagh had five players in the 44-man panel announced on Wednesday, Tyrone six (including Gormley) while Down (three), Derry (three), Donegal (one) and Cavan (one) were also represented.
The squad named by manager Sean Boylan did not include players still involved in the All-Ireland championship and it's certain that several players from those counties will come on board for the series.
The players will meet in Dublin this weekend for training.
This year's games will be played at Galway's Pearse Stadium on 28 or 29 October and Croke Park on 4 or 5 November.
