Johnny McBride led Derry to a famous win over Tyrone |
Derry captain Johnny McBride hailed his county's stunning Ulster Championship win over Tyrone as a huge result. "We have not won much in recent years and we treated this as our All-Ireland final," said McBride.
"We have worked six months to get ourselves into this position and to beat the All-Ireland champions on their own ground is massive for us.
"We knew they had come back from six points down against Dublin last year but it was hard for them with 14 men."
Tyrone boss Mickey Harte said missed chances had cost his side.
"The first half told the story of the game. We had 10 chances and got no points. Derry had seven chances and scored six," said the Red Hands manager.
"We worked hard at the start of the second half and got a few points and saw a bit of light. We simply could not afford to concede that goal.
"This will drive the players on but it is a long road for us now and there will be teams in the qualifiers as good as Derry."
Meanwhile, next weekend's Tyrone club SFC and IFC games have been postponed due to the county side's injury crisis.
League matches will be played but Harte has ordered his senior county players not to take part.
