Derry plan to 'just do it'
Derry assistant manager John Morrison
John Morrison is hoping Derry do it against Westmeath
Derry hope to continue following the line from the Starsky and Hutch movie and go out and ''just do it'' against Westmeath on Saturday at Croke Park.

Victory against the Leinster champions will see the Oak Leafers charge into the All-Ireland semi-finals - something that was just a dream back in January.

But a glamour trip back to headquarters is on offer for a revived Derry squad.

''This team had ability, but this year they have found character and heart,'' said assistant manager John Morrison.

''I don't want to use the word belief, it's too vague. Feeling would be a better description.

''They have a lot of feeling and when they have feeling they will do it.

''That has been our catchphrase. Travelling to Limerick on the coach the players were watching Starsky and Hutch and their tag line was 'just do it'.''

Coming on the back of that was Derry's 1993 All-Ireland winner Damien Cassidy who said that Mickey Moran's side will certainly have it all to do.

''Derry certainly have it all to do,'' he said. ''But that is no surprise coming from me.

''They haven't really played anybody of any merit since the Tyrone trouncing in the first game of the Ulster Championship.

Football here is still up there with the best and this team will go further
John Morrison

''Limerick showed themselves to be a good team when they took Kerry to a replay.

''But in actual fact, and similar to Laois, Limerick were asked to play three matches in a short space of time.

''Mentally on the back of a defeat it leaves you in a bad position.

''Derry only won that game in the last five minutes and it leaves you wondering how much Derry have improved.

''Still it's great to see Derry winning and that's the bottom line as far as I'm concerned.''

Morrison, however, is more upbeat. ''It's fantastic for the players, for Mickey, and Derry football,'' he said.

''The red and white jersey is back in Croke Park where it should be. I'm an Armagh man and I'm saying that football here is still up there with the best and this team will go further.''
