Fermanagh shock Armagh
Tom Brewster
Tom Brewster hit Fermanagh's winning point deep in injury-time
Fermanagh produced a sensational display to shock favourites Armagh 0-12 to 0-11 in Saturday's All-Ireland Quarter-Final at Croke Park.

Tom Brewster's point in the fourth minute of injury-time earned the Ernesiders a thoroughly deserved win.

Apart from the opening 10 minutes, Fermanagh bossed the game throughout.

Nerves appeared to affect Fermanagh in the closing stages as they missed a series of easy chances but Brewster's last gasp point won the day.

Armagh started without late cry-off Oisin McConville but it didn't affect the Ulster Champions early on as a Diarmuid Marsden score and three Steven McDonnell points helped them into a 0-4 to 0-0 lead.

However, Colm Bradley opened Fermanagh's account in the 10th minute and in truth, Charlie Mulgrew's side never really looked back.

Fermanagh were level at 0-6 to 0-6 by the 23rd minute when Bradley hit a superb '45.

By that stage, McDonnell had notched five of Armagh's points while the outstanding Stephen Maguire had scored three at the other end.

It then got ever better for Fermanagh when Maguire hit two more scores, including a glorious 28th minute effort from play to put the Ernesiders 0-8 to 0-6 ahead.

Against the run of play, Armagh were inches away from a goal in the 33rd minute but Marsden's palmed effort slammed off the crossbar with goalkeeper Niall Tinney beaten.

It then got ever worse for Armagh in first half injury-time when Enda McNulty was deservedly sent off for a cynical elbow on outstanding Fermanagh midfielder Martin McGrath.

Armagh regrouped in the minutes after half-time and three unanswered scores, including a magificent effort from the hitherto quiet Kieran McGeeney put Joe Kernan's side 0-9 to 0-8 ahead.

First half substitute Brewster levelled in the 44th minute and another glorious score from Eamon Maguire restored parity once again after McDonnell had put Armagh ahead again from a free.

McConville, introduced as a sub, put the Ulster champions ahead in the 60th minute but by now Fermanagh were starting to dominate in the middle third of the field again.

Brewster, after a bad miss seconds earlier, showed great composure to level from a tight angle in the 62nd minute.

Over the next frenetic seven minutes, Fermanagh wasted three great chances to hit a lead point.

Although four minutes of injury-time were announced, it was clear than one point was going to win the game.

Substitute Brian Mallon missed the target for Armagh with an ambitious effort from long range.

The ball then slid around like a wet bar of soap in midfield for what seemed like an age before Fermanagh managed to work the ball downfield.

The chance was presented to Brewster and the Enniskillen man made no mistake to set up a semi-final meeting with Mayo.
