Derry boss Mickey Moran has drafted in several young players |
Derry football boss Mickey Moran has left several established names out of his initial panel for the upcoming National League.
Those who have not made the cut include Dermot Dougan, Johnny McBride, Gavin Diamond and Gareth Doherty.
Only two Bellaghy men - Fergal Doherty and Ciaran McNally - have been included in the squad with the other Doherty brother Kevin also left out.
Ballinderry trio James Conway, Martin Harney and Darren Crozier have not been included although their club-mates Michael Conlan, Kevin McGuckin, Niall McCusker, Enda Muldoon, Conleth Gilligan and newcomer Paul Wilson do remain part of Moran's plans.
In all, 13 players who took part in the 2003 championship have not been named in the squad.
Moran has called up six members of the All-Ireland minor winning team from last year.
Tohill future in doubt
They are Gerard O'Kane, Ciaran Mullan, Patsy Bradley, Ruairi Convery, Paul Young and the boss' son Conleth.
In addition, Johnny Bradley, who helped St Pat's Maghera win this year's Hogan Cup title, is included.
Glenullin player Eoin Bradley joins his brother Paddy in the squad while Slaughtneil's McEldowney twins, Francis and Fergal, are called up to the panel along with club-mate Patsy Bradley.
Anthony Tohill's plans for 2004 remain unclear and it's possible that he may have played his final intercounty game.
Derry had a hugely disappointing 2003 season with failure to get out of Division Two followed by an early championship exit after defeats by Tyrone and Dublin.
