John McEntee (with ball) has an anxious wait ahead of him |
Armagh's John McEntee will know his fate on Tuesday night on whether he will be free to play in the All-Ireland final against Tyrone.
At the Games Administration Committee meeting the GAA chiefs may take action over McEntee's clash with Donegal's Barry Monaghan in the semi-final.
McEntee was given a yellow card at the time, but the GAC could charge the player with deliberately striking an opponent with his elbow.
That could mean he could miss the historic shoot-out on 28 September between the two Ulster counties.
McEntee, however, has received backing from Tyrone's Gavin Devlin who felt the wrath of the GAC when he was handed a 12-week ban after the chiefs studied a video recording of a stamping offence against Laois.
''He definitely doesn't deserve to miss the All-Ireland. It would be a shame if he missed it,'' Devlin told the Irish News.
''We know John McEntee has been a key player this last three of four years for Armagh.
''He's a big, strong, physical player, he uses his body really well to get away from tackles.
''But there's one thing that everyone in Ulster knows anyway, he's not a dirty player. John in particular has played some great games for Armagh this year. He's probably their top man in most matches.
''For him to miss the All-Ireland final because of an incident like that, would be totally unbelievable,'' said Devlin who would be McEntee's direct opponent in the Croke Park decider.
