Mayo 0-9 Tyrone 1-9 Goalscorer Sean Cavanagh in action against Mayo Under-21s |
Ulster champions Tyrone qualified for the All-Ireland Under-21 final by beating Mayo at Markievicz Park.
Peter Doherty's side, with three senior stars in their line-up, proved too strong for the Connacht champions in Sunday's semi-final.
One of the senior players, Sean Cavanagh, got the all-important goal in the second half.
That gave Tyrone, Ulster title winners for the last four years, a bit of breathing space.
Mayo really needed to find the net in the closing stages but they could not manage to stop the Tyrone bandwagon rolling on.
The Red Hand county boys will play the winners of the 21 September semi-final between Dublin and Waterford.
"There is obviously a big buzz in the camp at the moment," said manager Doherty.
"But I am not surprised by our success because there is a pile of good underage players in Tyrone."
