Sean Cavanagh was involved in the controversial penalty incident |
Tyrone 2-8 0-11 Monaghan
A controversial penalty three minutes from time helped holders Tyrone claim their fourth successive Ulster U21 Football title against unlucky Monaghan.
With Paul Finlay in superb form, Monaghan led for much of the contest but Tyrone's two goals proved decisive.
With Leo Meenan and Paul Finlay both notching three points, Tyrone and Monaghan were level at 0-6 apiece at half-time.
Three further points from Finlay put Monaghan 0-9 to 0-6 ahead.
But a Kelvin Hughes goal levelled matters midway through the second half.
Treanor foul
Finlay hit his eighth point of the day to put Monaghan 1-8 to 0-10 ahead with five minutes left.
However, Tyrone then secured the controversial penalty which was hammered home by Aidan McCarron.
In the incident which led to the penalty, Tyrone appeared to have notched a point when a long floated ball bounced off the ground and over the bar.
However, the referee, after hearing appeals from Tyrone, appear to adjudge that Monaghan full-back Rory Treanor had fouled Sean Cavanagh and he awarded the spot-kick.
A further Peter Donnelly point in the final minute extended Tyrone's advantage to three points and although Monaghan battled in injury-time, there was no road back for them.
