Down wait and hope
Down boss Paddy O'Rourke
Paddy O'Rourke's side is still hoping to avoid relegation

Down's Allianz Division One status is still in the balance after a decision by the GAA's Games Administration Committee.

The GAC has ordered a replay of the Division 1B between Kildare and Sligo, the result of which will finally decide whether Down are relegated to Division Two.

The game is scheduled for 20 April at Markievicz Park in Sligo. Down, however, are considering an appeal over the GAC's decision on Wednesday night. Down chairman Eamon O'Toole has hit out at the decision.

"If it had been Down in a similar position they would have accepted the final result on the field of play," he said.

Down feel that Sligo will have an unfair advantage over Kildare who are relegated no matter what the result of the game.

Following the last round of matches the NFL Division 1B table showed that Down had been relegated along with Kildare.

Sligo were also in the relegation mix after originally suffering defeat at the hands of Kildare on 9 February.

However, the saga started after a technical misdemeanour by Kildare with regards to listing substitutes after which Sligo were awarded two points which steered them clear of relegation.

Paddy O'Rourke's Down side would now only survive in Division One if Kildare were to defeat Sligo.

Down, however, would prefer the original result between Kildare and Sligo to stand, or, for the GAC to order a head-to-head between themselves and Sligo.
