Down NFL status in balance
As of now Paddy O'Rourke's side have been relegated
O'Rourke is hoping the GAC order a replay of the Kildare v Sligo game

Down footballers' Allianz Division One status should be clearer after Wednesday evening's Games Administration Committee meeting in Dublin.

As of now, the official NFL Division 1B table shows that Paddy O'Rourke's side have been relegated along with Kildare after they finished on five points.

Sligo avoided relegation having claimed six points but two of those points were awarded to the Yeats County after they objected to Kildare's victory on the field on play on 9 February.

Kildare lost their points because of their failure to properly list their substitutes.

The Leinster county initially appealed this decision in the hope of gaining a re-fixture because the rules state there is no prospect of the original result standing.

However with Kildare's relegation now guaranteed even if they were to win the game it's not clear whether they remain interested in a re-fixture.

Down's Division One survival now depends on a re-fixture taking place and Kildare winning the game.

Mourne county officials are steering clear of making any significant comment on the issue in advance of Wednesday's GAC meeting.

Dublin teams are bankrolling the Leinster Council and Croke Park
Dublin chairman John Bailey

Meanwhile, the Dublin county board have threatened to withdraw their teams from the Leinster Championships.

Dublin officials are angry at Leinster Council plans to appoint an outsider to oversee the 4.5million Euro earmarked by the GAA's Strategic Review Committee.

Dublin chairman John Bailey had hoped to co-chair the committee to oversee the allocation of funds for the first year, before taking sole charge of affairs for the remaining four years.

However the Leinster Council have rejected this idea and the situation will now be discussed on Wednesday when Dublin and Leinster officials will meet with Croke Park's top brass.

Bailey said that Dublin teams "are bankrolling the Leinster Council and Croke Park".
