Fermanagh's first class victory
Fermanagh 3-06 0-12 Meath

Fermanagh forward Raymond Gallagher

A cracking goal from Raymond Gallagher consolidated Fermanagh's continuation in the top tier of NFL football.

Fermanagh were already well on their way to victory over Meath when Gallagher struck with a brilliant 30-metre rocket in a Division 1B game at Brewster Park.

It was a superb second half performance by the Ernemen that saw them win their third game in the campaign and possibly earmark a semi-final slot.

The side's were level 1-3 to 0-6 at the break with Stephen Maguire firing home Fermanagh's opening goal.

Although Meath surged ahead on the resumption, another goal this time from Ronan McCabe in the 50th minute set up Fermanagh for a driving finish.

With Martin McGrath dominating midfield, two points from Tom Brewster and one each from Gallagher and Kieran Donnelly allowed Fermanagh to stretch out a five-point lead.

Meath did hit back with a couple of points, but Gallagher's fabulous strike in injury time sealed the issue.

''It was a great victory,'' said Fermanagh boss Dom Corrigan.

It was as intense at Brewster Park on Sunday as it will be when we meet Donegal in June
Dom Corrigan

''We came into the game knowing that two points would secure Division One status, and against a Meath team that was improving with every game, it was a good win.

''We are certainly very pleased with the result after what I thought was a great performance.

''Although Cavan and Laois are probably in the best position for a play-off spot, but if we get two wins from Sligo and May you never know what can happen.

''Since they changed the format of the league, it has changed it's intensity to a Championship format.

''It was as intense at Brewster Park on Sunday as it will be when we meet Donegal in June.''

Down 1-10 1-13 Cavan

A brilliant power-house performance in the second half allowed Cavan to defeat Down by three points at Castlewellan.

Down just could not break down a defence in which Thomas Prior, Anthony Forde and Peter Reilly were outstanding.

Dermot McCabe was his usual calmness in midfield.

But up front Cavan were incessive with Paul Callaghan and Finbarr Reilly collecting seven points between them.

Down lead 0-09 to 1-04 at the break despite going behind by four points in the early minutes with the Cavan goal coming from Sean Maguire

Down, however, were wasteful and although a Gregory McCartan penalty raised his side's hopes early in the second hlaf, Cavan had the necessary firepower for victory.
