Portadown 5-1 Omagh Town Striker Vinny Arkins landed a double for Portadown |
Two goals from Vinny Arkins helped Portadown to an easy victory over a weakened Omagh side at Shamrock Park on Wednesday night.
Other goals from Gary Hamilton, Neil Odgen and Paul McAreavey did the trick while Omagh replied through Noel Johnston.
Omagh manager Roy McCreadie, unhappy at the timing of the rearranged Premierhsip game, paraded a virtual second string side.
Although only two players were regular first team squad members, they gave Portadown plenty to think about in the opening period.
McAreavey gave the Ports the lead in the 38th minute when he headed home a left-wing cross from Hamilton, but Omagh went in all square at the break.
One minute from the interval Johnston rose well to head home a cross from Austin Friel.
But once Portadown found their rhythm in the second half, there was no stopping them.
They rattled in three goals in six minutes to put their supporters at ease.
First up was Odgen in the 55th minute who had the simple task of firing home from outside the box after goalkeeper Peter Ward misjudged a long ball.
Then Hamilton knocked in his 31st goal of the season after a mistake by Michael Kelly.
Obviously striker Arkins could not be kept out of the picture and he collected his 33rd and 34th goals of the season with typical strikes.
