Glentoran defender Gary Smyth is having a great season |
Glentoran's Gary Smyth has been named Guinness player of the month in the Irish League for February.
Central defender Smyth has been in outstanding form as the east Belfast side go for a clean sweep of four domestic trophies.
Smyth last won the monthly award in April 1997 when he was with Glenavon.
"We have been playing well and this award is as much a reflection on my team-mates as it is on me," said Smyth who is nearing the 300-appearances mark for the Glens.
Glentoran won all four of their Premier Division games during the month with Smyth scoring against Cliftonville and Newry Town.
They also beat Linfield in the semi-finals of the TFG Sports County Antrim Shield and enjoyed a 3-0 Irish Cup sixth round victory over Ballyclare Comrades.
Smyth's team-mate at the Oval, goalkeeper Elliott Morris, came third in the February awards.
The runner-up was Coleraine midfielder Stephen Beatty.
