Maghera pick up five Allstars

St Pat's Maghera have qualified for the MacRory final

Skipper Gerard O'Kane was among four St Patrick's Maghera MacRory Cup team members to receive Bank of Ireland Ulster Colleges Allstar awards in Belfast on Tuesday.

Maghera are preparing for the MacRory Cup decider against neighbours St Mary's Magherafelt on St Patrick's Day.

O'Kane, Derry's All-Ireland minor winning captain from last year, and Jonathan Bradley were named in the Bank of Ireland Football selection.

Two other members of the Maghera MacRory squad - Liam Hinphey and Brendan Mullan - won Ulster Colleges Hurling Allstars as did another of the college's students Christopher O'Neill.

Maghera's MacRory Cup final opponents also didn't go away empty-handed with Ruairi Murray winning one of the football honours.

Omagh, beaten by Maghera in a MacRory quarter-final replay, topped the Allstar football honours with three awards: Christopher Green, Joe Ball and Gareth McDermott.

O'Brien double

Patrician Carrickmacross' emergence this season was recognised by James Conlon and Stephen Gallogly earning awards.

In all, 11 schools were represented in the football selection.

These included St Patrick's Keady's Bernard O'Brien who was also named in the hurling side.

O'Brien becomes only the fourth player to scoop football and hurling awards in the same season.
