Magee sees off Jiminez
Brian Magee is unbeaten in 18 fights

Brian Magee claimed a unanimous points verdict over Miguel Jiminez to secure his IBO super-middleweight title in Huddersfield on Saturday.

Magee decked Jiminez with a straight left-hand in the first 30 seconds of the contest on his way to an emphatic victory.

The Belfast southpaw was in total command from the start but suffered a cut above his left eye in the seventh and was briefly unsettled by a head clash which drew blood from his nose in round eight.

Jiminez performed negatively throughout and Magee thoroughly deserved the whitewash, scoring 120-108, 120-108, 120-107 on the three judges' scorecards.

It was the unbeaten Magee's 18th successive professional victory.

Magee said: "I couldn't see out of my eye for a while but I kept control and I'm quite happy.

"I needed to bring it on a bit more after my last fight and I think I managed to do that. I kept it tight and got the job done."

Meanwhile, James Hare took just one minute and 14 seconds to hold onto his Commonwealth welterweight title at Huddersfield.

Hare knocked Namibian challenger Frans Hantindi to the canvas three times in the opening seconds before referee Marcus McDonnell stopped the contest.

Hare, 26, is beginning to crank up his knockout ratio but more questions will be asked about the quality of his opponent.

Hare's opening left hook toppled the big challenger who reported a record of eight wins from his 11 professional fights.

The home favourite unleashed a flurry of hooks to deck Hantindi again and the flash ending was inevitable before the right hand which dispatched the Namibian for the third time.
