Giants need victory
Dave Whistle's side could only draw 2-2 with Sherffield on Thursday
Dave Whistle's side need victory on Friday night
Belfast Giants 2-2 Sheffield Steelers

Belfast Giants must win Friday evening's game against the Steelers to have any chance to retaining their Superleague trophy.

Following a disappointing draw with their big rivals at the Odyssey Arena on Thursday night, the Giants must get both points on their home rink to have any further interest in the title chase.

The Giants appeared to be stiffled by the tight Steelers marking throughout the game.

But after taking a 2-1 lead, they allowed the visitors to come back to snatch an equaliser at the end of the middle period.

Outside chance Despite a period of overtime, the Giants still could not find a way past the stubborn Steelers defence.

It was Sheffield who stole ahead on four minutes when Dion Darling fired home.

But goals from Kevin Riehl and Doug Macdonald gave the Giants some hope before Scott Levins equalised.

The Steelers are now four points ahead of the Giants, who have, however, one match in hand, and still with an outside chance.
