Belfast Giants booked their place in the Continental Cup final with victory over EHC Linz Black Wings at the Odyssey Arena, Belfast.

The Superleague champions, in Europe for the first time, twice had to come from behind but hit back to claim a spot in the Final Eight.

Belfast also beat Valerenga of Norway 3-0 and French outfit Rouen Dragons 8-0.

Coach Dave Whistle's side will now face Lagano in Switzerland in January.

The players have earned exactly what they have got

"I think we played excellent all weekend," said Whistle.

"The heart was racing for pretty much the 60 minutes, it was an excellent game, a really tight game.

"We have worked hard and the players have earned exactly what they have got.

"They have been working hard for the last month, every day, every game. We played extremely well for 180 minutes and that is why we won."

Belfast went behind against the Black Wings to an Andreas Judex goal in the fourth-minute before Paul Kruse equalised.

Just 42 seconds later Richard Nasheim again gave the Austrians the lead but Belfast made an instant reply through Sean Selmser.

Belfast dominated the goalless second period and surged into a lead early in the final period through Robby Sandrock and Rob Stewart.

Robert Lukas clawed a goal back for Linz but Curt Bowen sealed victory for Giants with an empty-net goal 46 seconds from time.
