Hirvonen's performance in Greece earned him this chance |
Mikko Hirvonen has been nominated as one of Ford's points-scoring drivers for next month's Rally Finland. Hirvonen lives in the event's home town Jyvaskyla, and earned his chance with his impressive drive in Greece.
"His understanding of the nature of the stages and his speed means he deserves a chance," said Ford's Malcolm Wilson.
Jarmo Lehtinen is the other nominee, with Roman Kresta and Jan Mozny eligible to score individual points but not manufacturers' championship ones.
Hirvonen turns 25 two days before the rally, and was understandably delighted at his opportunity.
"This is fantastic news and a huge vote of confidence for me," he said.
"I am totally committed to getting the very best possible result for Ford and, personally for Malcolm.
"I haven't driven the 2005-specification Focus RS before but I will have a day's testing in Finland before the rally to enable me to get used to it."
