Rossiter is trying to end Swindon's 42 year wait for the Elite League title |
Swindon have signed Australian rider Mark Lemon to strengthen their ranks for the Elite League play-offs. The veteran will share a reserve berth with Ryan Fisher, while Cory Gathercole moves to the number 8 role and Richard Sweetman drops out of the squad. Robins boss Alun Rossiter told BBC Wiltshire that Lemon is a good addition to the club. "He feels that he's back on form, and he is banging in 13 and 14 points a meeting at Newcastle." The change has been made because Swindon might face either Coventry or Lakeside in the play-offs. | Sweetman is flying at the moment, but I just feel that a play-off semi-final is just too much pressure to put on him |
Both of those teams ride their home meetings on a Friday night, which would mean the Robins would be without both Gathercole and Fisher, who are committed to their Premier League teams on that night. That would leave Swindon having to use Sweetman in the away leg of the play-off semi-final, something which Rossiter says would have been a big risk. "Sweetman is flying at the moment, but I just feel that a play-off semi-final is just too much pressure to put on him." The change will also allow the Robins to use Gathercole as a replacement for Paul Hurry, who has been struggling with a back injury in recent weeks.
