Stoke Potters have been handed a difficult start to the 2009 season, which starts on 27 March. They have been grouped with Scunthorpe, King's Lynn, Somerset, Birmingham, Rye House and Newport in the southern section of the Premier Trophy. Their Premier League campaign begins with back-to-back matches against Workington, Stoke hosting the first leg on 2 May. Berwick will be their opponents in the first round of the Knockout Cup. Stoke's first action of the season comes on 21 March with a challenge match at home against Birmingham. The Potters came fourth from bottom in the Premier League in 2008, despite a home record of nine wins, one tie and five defeats from their 15 matches at Loomer Road. Isle of Wight rider Glen Phillips is the final addition to the seven-man Stoke squad for the 2009 season.
