Somerset Rebels have reached an agreement with Jay Herne to be their 'double-up' reserve rider for 2009.

Australian Hearne will ride alongside Brendan Johnson in the Rebels line-up.

Rebels' general manager David Croucher said: "Jay is delighted to be joining us and it is his ambition to finish the season in the main body of the team.

"Jay had a taste of the Premier League with Birmingham in 2008 and he has a grounding in British speedway as well a knowledge of some of the tracks."
