Ipswich facing fixture congestion

Speedway
Ipswich have to find a way of staging three more home meetings this season

Ipswich Witches have been left with a backlog of meetings after bad weather ruined two successive matches.

The Witches, who could still finish third in the Elite League, may now hold two meetings on one night or ask permission to stage another fixture.

Witches team manager Pete Simmons told BBC Radio Suffolk: "It'd be tragic if we didn't run enough meetings to get the points we know we're capable of."

Ipswich's next meeting is away to Poole Pirates on 10 September.

They will be hoping to have Piotr Swiderski available after a spectacular crash in heat one of Thursday's abandoned match against Coventry.

The Polish rider was taken to hospital for precautionary checks after a first bend collision with The Bees Hans Andersen.

Simmons said: "Piotr went through the fence big time but luckily he did just stop before the stock car barrier although it did look nasty.

"He's been checked over [by medical staff at Foxhall Stadium] and they don't think anything is broken although he did take a mighty whack on the head."
