Redcar Bears rider Danny Giffard will miss the rest of the speedway season following a crash in the 54-39 win against Sheffield Tigers on Tuesday.

Giffard, 24, broke his collarbone and shoulder in a heavy fall on the first bend after colliding with Tigers rider Ricky Ashworth in heat seven.

Bears captain Gary Havelock top-scored in the meeting with figures of 12+1.

Riders Arlo Bugeja and Chris Kerr made successful returns to the side with figures of 9+2 and 7+1 respectively.

Meanwhile, Redcar Cubs have signed 21-year-old rider Benji Compton.

Compton, who was born in Tenerife of English parents, has ridden for Scunthorpe Scorpions, Sheffield Tigers and Berwick Bandits.

The Cubs' Scottish rider Greg Blair has announced he will sit out the rest of the 2008 season after injuring himself against Newcastle on Sunday.
