Redcar Bears have released club captain and veteran rider Gary Havelock. Promoter Glyn Taylor told the rider of the club's decision following his appearance in Thursday's 50-40 win against Scunthorpe. Havelock, 39, joined Redcar in 2006 and is believed to be disappointed with the decision to terminate his contract. The reasons behind the decision are understood to be financial, following Taylor's admission he is seeking new ownership of the Bears franchise. Meanwhile Havelock signed off his Redcar career on a high with a typically impressive display against Scunthorpe Scorpions on Thursday. | 606: DEBATE |
Losing just one point, the experienced Teessider took figures of 10+1, although it was young Australian Ty Proctor who stole the show with a huge 16 point haul. Middlesbrough-born Havelock has ridden for a string of Elite League clubs including Poole Pirates and Arena Essex before returning to the North East to ride for Redcar on-loan.
