Despite a paid 13 points from Mads Korneliussen Swindon are out of the Knockout Cup (Les Aubrey) |
Swindon are out of the Knockout Cup after losing by three points on aggregate to Poole. The Robins 50-40 win at the Abbey Stadium fell just short of overturning their 53-40 defeat to the Pirates. Captain Leigh Adams was unbeaten by an opposition rider over both legs and told BBC Radio Swindon the team missed the injured Troy Batchelor. "We've relied on Mads, Troy and myself picking up the points so with one missing it makes it tough," said Adams. "Poole are a great side and we've pushed them right to the end so we've got to take credit from that." The Pirates won by 13 points in Dorset on Wednesday, and the teams were locked together for most of the second leg before a late Swindon surge saw them just 3 points behind on aggregate going into the final race. Wright bounced back from a poor first leg to score 14 points at the Abbey Stadium |
Adams took the chequered flag in the all important heat 15 but Mads Korneliussen could not find a way past Bjarne Pedersen and Chris Holder for the Pirates. Swindon's James Wright was named man-of-the-match for his 14 point return from the reserve position. Wright said: "At least we put up a fight, Poole were always going to be hard. We've got to look at the disappointment of losing by 13 points at their track. Scoring just four points in that meeting I felt I had to do something special tonight."
