A 15-point maximum by Andreas Jonsson helped Lakeside Hammers to a comfortable Craven Shield victory over Peterborough Panthers. The Swede's dominant performance, plus eight Hammers heat advantages, meant the result was rarely in doubt at the Arena Essex Raceway. Leigh Lanham and Jonas Davidsson also enjoyed successful evenings, scoring 9+3 and 9+1 respectively. Jonsson's evening was also saw him equal the Purfleet track record of 56.9 seconds in the first heat of the meeting. Hammers boss Stuart Douglas was pleased with his team's performance. He said: "After last week's effort against the Ipswich Witches, it was important to re-assert our home track authority. "Led by an outstanding one-two pairing of Andreas Jonsson and Leigh Lanham, the boys certainly did the business tonight." Douglas also praised the track staff for their work in making sure the meeting went ahead, despite heavy rain during the day. He commented: "Maximum credit is due to our team manager Jon Cook and the track staff. "We could have called this meeting off at 3.00pm, thinking the track was too tricky for racing, but the fans expect better and I'm thrilled the positive attitude has paid off." The Hammers get their Elite League campaign under way with an away trip to Belle Vue on Monday night (31 March).
