Tobi Kroner is enjoying his time at Foxhall |
Ipswich Witches beat Peterborough Panthers by 61-31 at Foxhall on Thursday to end their Craven Shield programme with five points. The Witches must now wait for Lakeside Hammers and the Panthers to complete their matches to see if they qualify. It was a fine win at Foxhall with Tobi Kroner, 21, scoring his first ever paid maximum from reserve. "I've got my starts right and I'm using the same set-up as last year," the German rider told BBC Radio Suffolk. "The bid difference is Mark Loram, I'm living with him and he's coming with me to meetings and giving me advice. | It is a different team and we speak English to each other. You need to be able to communicate. |
"I'm learning from a world champion and that's a good school in my mind." Kroner also acknowledged the part that former British champions Chris and John Louis are playing in his development. He praised fellow reserve Chris Schramm who was paid for six points. "It is important to team ride, I looked back at him in the reserve race and saw that we were on for an easy 5-1. "But if the race is tight, you need to keep working together." Piotr Swiderski, Jarek Hampel and Chris Louis also recorded double figure scores with all three beating the Panthers number one Hans Andersen. Andersen came into his own in the later stages, but the Witches recorded six maximum heat wins and provided the winner in 11 of the 15 heats. Kroner feels that the Witches are much stronger this season than they were last year. | INDIVIDUAL SCORES Miskowiak - 7+2 Swiderski - 13+1 Louis - 10+1 Johnston - 4+2 Hampel - 12+1 Schramm - 5+1 Kroner - 10+2 |
"It is a different team and we speak English to each other. "You need to be able to communicate and last year with two Poles who couldn't speak English it wasn't good for the spirit of the team." Robert Miskowiak scored paid nine points, his best of the season, showing that he is recovering from illness. While Hampel put his engine worries behind him with paid 13. The Hammers and the Panthers now have to race each other twice after the weather caused two postponements last week. The Witches hope that both wins their home legs and their big race points difference will see them through to the last three in the Craven Shield.
