Crutchlow is competing in his first MotoP season |
Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow is confident he will return to full fitness after undergoing surgery to correct a problem with his right arm. The Coventry rider had complained of his arm swelling during races, making it hard for him to grip the handlebars. He finished 11th and eighth in his two MotoGP World Championship races in his debut season in the class. "At the moment I can't feel two of my fingers, but the doctor said that is completely normal," said Crutchlow. The 25-year-old, 2009 World Supersport champion added: "The doctors said that in 12 days the stitches will come off and I will be able to ride in Portugal [on 1 May], so I'm really looking forward to riding the bike without the problem with my arm." He finished eighth for Monster Yamaha Tech 3 in round two of the MotoGP World Championship in Jerez last weekend. Isle of Man-based Crutchlow had treatment for tendon and ligament trouble on his left shoulder last year. Crutchlow's team manager, Herv Poncharal, added: "To have surgery once the season has started is always a worry, but I think Cal made the right decision as we have this long break now before the next race in Portugal. "We are very happy with his progress so far and hopefully now he will be free from the arm problem we will only see him getting stronger." 'The craziest race I've ever been in' - Cal Crutchlow
