Pedrosa wins after crash halts German GP (UK only)

Casey Stoner produced a superb ride to set the best time in practice for Sunday's US Grand Prix on Friday.

The Australian led the field on one minute, 21.699 seconds - with championship leader Jorge Lorenzo second on 1:21.932.

Lorenzo moved to within 0.007 seconds of Stoner at one point but the Ducati rider rallied to lower his best lap.

Andrea Dovizioso was third with Dani Pedrosa fourth, home favourite Ben Spies fifth and Valentino Rossi sixth.

Current World Superbike champion Spies is in his first home race as a MotoGP rider while Rossi is continuing his comeback from his fractured leg having finished fourth in the German Grand Prix last weekend.

The Italian had been tipped for a podium finish this weekend but began his challenge by taking no chances as he went round the twisting Californian circuit.

Lorenzo has a 47-point lead over Pedrosa in the championship standings and has finished first or second in each of this season's eight races.
