Cummins opens season with points

Conor Cummmins

The Isle of Man's Conor Cummins finished in the points in his 2009 BSB Superstock 1000 Championship campaign opener at Brands Hatch on Monday.

Despite limited time in testing on the R1 machine the Team Blackhorse Yamaha rider put in an excellent ride to finish in 13th place.

The race was won by Alastair Seeley with Richard Cooper second and Steve Brogan third.

Cummins now heads to France for the Le Mans 24-hour race.

Team Manager Ian Lougher said: "I'm very pleased with Conor's performance, he only had a short time to get used to the set up, so I was impressed.

We know we have work to do on the bike but it's looking very promising."

The young Manxman was very consistent with his lap times throughout the 22-lap race, lapping only one second slower than the overall race winner.

Lougher added: "We'll be working on the rear-end settings ahead of the next round at Oulton Park in three weeks time and hopefully get Conor some more time on the bike."

Next up for Team Blackhorse Yamaha is Oliver's Mount, Scarborough where Lougher gets his 2009 season underway when he competes in the Ian Watson Spring National.
